THE FOREIGN & COMMONWEALTH OFFICE

SPSP has received just two letters from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office:

1. Dated: 13 September 2007; details the input that the FCO is making, together with various meetings with the Foreign Secretary, Spanish Ambassador, & other EU Embassies.  The final paragraph states: "We know that we need to continue to exert pressure on the Spanish authorities, and I can assure you that we are prepared to keep doing so".

2. Dated: 19 December 2007; offers 'sympathy', acknowledges that this is 'a very serious issue', says 'there are significant differences between UK and Spanish Laws and customs', and finally 'the FCO does continue to explore opportunities to raise awareness of property ownership issues with the appropriate Spanish authorities and express concern at the impact these problems are having on the lives of some of our citizens and Spain's reputation abroad'.

_____________________________________________________________

We do not need 'sympathy'.  We need action, based on the fact that EU Laws have undoubtedly been breached.  'Spanish Customs', as referred to in the FCO letter, do not give a licence to break these fundamental Laws.

Please let us continue to exert the same pressure on the British Government, as they assure us they are bearing on the Spanish authorities.  Please make your voice heard to the FCO while we work to build up Our Petition:
